About Essential Hospitals Institute
Essential Hospitals Institute leads research, education, dissemination, and leadership development for America’s Essential Hospitals. To advance the quality, equity, safety, and affordability of care at essential hospitals, the Institute identifies promising practices in the field, provides professional development training, promotes practice improvements, and disseminates innovative approaches to care. It does this with an eye toward improving individual and population health, especially for underrepresented and marginalized people and communities.
The Workforce Resiliency Action Group will provide leaders at members of America’s Essential Hospitals with tactical and operational strategies to create a more inclusive and representative workforce, ensuring fairness and equity in hiring and retention practices. Essential Hospitals Institute will use the framework and content in “Building Workforce Equity at Essential Hospitals: A Toolkit for Creating and Maintaining a Resilient, Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Workforce” as a curriculum guide. The action group will meet monthly via Zoom, beginning in winter, 2025.
The Climate Resilience and Mitigation Interest Group (CRMIG) will give members the opportunity to share priorities, concerns, and experiences with establishing and improving climate resilience and mitigation efforts within their hospitals and health systems.
The Combating Structural Racism Interest Group consists of more than 100 members with different areas of professional expertise ranging from diversity, equity, and inclusion to government relations to quality improvement. Together, the group examines organizational practices, internal policies, clinical processes, and norms to better understand how structural racism affects their work and to make changes that promote antiracist health care transformation.
