House Vote to Pass the Budget Resolution

On the Hill: Reconciliation, Budget, Nominations

February 11, 2025
Julia Grady

Congress remains focused on nomination hearings in the Senate and ongoing budget and reconciliation discussions in both chambers. The association continues to defend and advance member interests amid these critical negotiations.

The Senate has taken up reconciliation, with Budget Committee Chairman Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) releasing the text of the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Resolution. It keeps the door open for potential changes to Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and other policies under the jurisdiction of the Senate Committee on Finance; the House Committee on Energy and Commerce; the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Each of these committees will be required to report legislation that reduces the deficit by at least $1 billion.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a Feb. 6 hearing on illicit drug threats, with bipartisan agreement on the urgency of addressing the severe crisis and the dangers posed by emerging substances like xylazine and fentanyl analogues. However, partisan divides emerged. Republicans focused on border security, while Democrats criticized the Trump administration and Elon Musk for funding freezes that affect public health programs, including the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

Committee Activity This Week

The House and Senate are both in session Monday through Thursday.

The House Committee on Ways and Means will hold a Health Subcommittee hearing, “Modernizing American Health Care: Creating Healthy Options and Better Incentives,” on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 2 pm ET.
