Debate over the expiring enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies is expected to intensify as Congress returns from Thanksgiving recess today. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has promised a vote likely to occur next week, but there is neither consensus around a proposal for congressional Republicans, nor clarity on what would be acceptable for congressional Democrats.
The Trump Administration could still shape the outcome, despite deciding against weighing in last week following pushback from Republicans on the Hill.
Hospital at Home
The House voted Dec. 1 to extend the Medicare Hospital Care at Home Program by a voice vote. The Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, H.R. 4313, would extend the Acute Hospital Care at Home initiative through the 2030 fiscal year. The program has seen enthusiastic support from both sides of the political aisle. We will continue to monitor and advocate for Senate movement on this bill and others that seek to extend the program.
Committee Activity This Week
The Senate and House are back in session Monday through Thursday this week, with the Senate also convening on Friday.
The House Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 10 am ET, titled, “Lives at Stake: Holding Tax-Exempt Organ Procurement Organizations Accountable.”
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions will hold a continued executive session for nominations on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 9:45 am ET. Immediately afterwards, at 10 am ET, there will be a full committee hearing, titled, “Making Health Care Affordable Again: Healing a Broken System.”
