On the Hill: Association Effort to Stop DSH Cuts and August Recess Update

August 25, 2025
Julia Grady

America’s Essential Hospitals is calling on Congress to eliminate the $8 billion cut to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments set to take effect on Oct. 1, along with the remaining two years of reductions. Add your hospital or health system’s name to our sign-on letter through the link below:

In December 2024, more than 250 member hospitals signed a similar association-led letter, which helped delay the cuts, then set for Jan. 1, 2025. With another deadline approaching, it’s critical we take action now.

Prompt and Fair Pay Act

Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), ranking member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, and fellow subcommittee member Greg Murphy, MD (R-N.C.), introduced “The Prompt and Fair Pay Act,” requiring Medicare Advantage (MA) plans to adequately reimburse providers for services offered to enrollees. America’s Essential Hospitals proudly endorses this legislation to strengthen MA for patients and providers.

Members can show support for the legislation by signing a letter organized by Premier, Inc. The new deadline is Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the close of business. For details, contact John Knapp, Premier’s Vice President of Advocacy, at John_Knapp@PremierInc.com.

Committee Activity This Week

Both the House and Senate are on August recess and will return on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
