MedPAC Talks Nursing Homes, Home Health at October Meeting

October 22, 2024
Evan Schweikert

On Oct. 10–11, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) hosted the second of seven planned meetings prior to publication of MedPAC’s annual report to Congress. Over two days, commissioners met publicly to hear presentations and lead public discussion about key concepts germane to their upcoming report, including:

  • Medicare spending and nursing home utilization by beneficiaries, as well as evaluation of current payment models
  • Findings from MedPAC’s annual beneficiary and provider focus groups
  • Supplemental benefit utilization by beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Advantage, including hearing, vision, and dental benefits
  • How changes in prospective payments for home health care have impacted both care delivery and cost
  • Estimation of home health care utilization among Medicare Advantage enrollees, compared with enrollees in traditional fee-for-service Medicare
