The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved Utah’s extension of comprehensive coverage for 12 months postpartum for Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries. Utah is the 45th state to extend postpartum coverage, made possible by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023.
Forty-five states, in addition to Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, have expanded postpartum coverage for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries. Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Nevada, and Wisconsin have not expanded coverage.
