In the early months of 2022, several states passed legislation aimed to help meet health care workforce needs amid the ongoing public health emergency.
- Alabama appropriated more than $400 million in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act. Up to $80 million of these funds will support delivery of health care and related services. Five million dollars were appropriated to expand and improve the use of telehealth in the state.
- A Delaware law amends the specifications of nurse training in the state to more rapidly certify national guard members as they provide temporary staffing during COVID-19.
- Kansas adopted legislation to extend renewal deadlines for licenses issued by the state Department of Aging and Disability Services for those in good standing.
- A New Jersey law extends to June authorization of out-of-state health care workers and recently graduated health care workers to practice in the state.
