FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. – Proposed language in the Senate Finance Committee’s budget reconciliation bill would add $443.4 billion to hospitals’ uncompensated care costs over the next 10 years, according to an analysis from America’s Essential Hospitals. More than two-thirds of the added costs come from cuts in payments for benefits provided to eligible Medicaid beneficiaries, which increase hospitals’ Medicaid shortfall.

The proposed Medicaid policy changes would increase hospital uncompensated care costs by at least $84.0 billion in 2034, which is $41.7 billion more than the amount projected under the House-passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), according to the analysis.
