Organizational Tools for Cost of Care Conversations

Cultivating a supportive organizational culture is key to fostering meaningful conversations about health care costs. In the fifth installment of the Cost of Care Conversations webinar series, participants gained tools to help decision-makers at health care organizations make systematic improvements to facilitate cost conversations between clinicians and patients.

First, Deliana Garcia, director of international projects and emerging issues at Migrant Clinicians Network, presented a policy statement and procedure for effective cost of care conversations. Then, Susan Perez, assistant professor at California State University, Sacramento, shared how a Consumers Union survey can help hospital leadership ask providers about cost of care practices, actions, and conversations with patients.
