Oregon lawmakers on Sept. 23, 2022, approved more than $40 million in emergency funding to alleviate overcrowding in the state’s hospitals.
The majority of the funding is dedicated to mitigating bed shortages at hospitals and long-term care facilities through increased staffing. Additionally:
- $21.8 million will fund contracts with nursing staffing agencies to support short-term staffing needs at hospitals and long-term care facilities;
- $4.4 million will support two respite care facilities;
- $4.2 million will provide incentives for adult foster homes, residential care facilities, and in-home care agencies accepting individuals ready to be discharged from the hospital; and
- $2.3 million will fund supplemental enhanced care facility beds.
