More than 250 members of America’s Essential Hospitals have signed a letter that calls on Congress to avert a devastating $8 billion cut to Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) funding scheduled for Jan. 1.
The letter, which the association shared with House and Senate leaders today, urges lawmakers to repeal all remaining DSH cuts — a total of $24 billion over the current and next two federal fiscal years.
“These cuts would undermine America’s health care safety net and significantly reduce our hospitals’ ability to provide lifesaving services to the communities you represent,” the association’s member hospitals say in the letter. “The far-reaching effects would limit your constituents’ access to care and hurt our local economies, including through job losses.”
America’s Essential Hospitals has worked with Congress over the past decade to delay or eliminate Medicaid DSH cuts more than a dozen times. Efforts to stop DSH cuts traditionally have seen strong bipartisan support on the Hill, and the association will continue to cultivate champions on both sides of the aisle for this latest campaign.
