On the Hill: Congress Returns to Busy Post-Election Session

December 3, 2024

With just 17 days to fund the federal government, 31 days until the start of a new Congress, and 48 days until President-elect Donald Trump takes office, critical decisions loom, and America’s Essential Hospitals is gearing up for a pivotal and fast-paced post-election legislative session.

Key issues for essential hospitals include:

  • Averting Medicaid disproportionate share hospital cuts
  • Securing waiver extensions for telehealth and hospital-at-home initiatives
  • Gaining support for essential health system designation
  • Protecting the 340B Drug Pricing Program
  • Educating members of Congress on the harms of site-neutral policies

The new 119th Congress also will bring fresh leadership and assignments for committees of jurisdiction, potentially influencing the association’s advocacy strategies for these priorities.
