As the outlook for the November election becomes clearer with a solidified Republican ticket and seismic shift at the top of the Democrats’ campaign, America’s Essential Hospitals has started to game-plan its priority issues for the nuances of either possible administration.
With a change in the presidency now certain, the association is assessing its advocacy strategies for Medicaid disproportionate share hospital cuts, the 340B Drug Pricing Program, site-neutral payment policies, essential hospital designation, and other issues.
On the Republican side, former president Donald Trump announced Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate, and both were accepted at the recently concluded Republican National Convention. For the Democrats, President Joe Biden’s departure from the race led to the rapid gelling of support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s new nominee; however, that remains unofficial until the party’s convention convenes Aug. 19.
America’s Essential Hospitals will continue to position essential hospitals for the best possible outcomes on key issues, regardless of which party wins the White House and how Senate and House control might change in November.
