Akpan serves as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Sinai Chicago, Illinois’ largest private safety net health system. He helps ensure that Sinai has the financial strength and operational support needed to care for patients and families across Chicago’s West and Southwest sides. 

With more than 20 years of health care leadership experience, Akpan has worked across hospitals, community health centers, Medicaid programs, and public health systems. His work focuses on strengthening access to care, improving efficiency, and responsibly stewarding resources so that services remain available to the communities that rely on them most. 

Akpan is deeply committed to transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability in health care. He partners closely with clinical and operational leaders to support high-quality care, expand services, and reinforce Sinai’s mission of health equity. 

Akpan holds a master’s degree in public administration from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nigeria. He is a certified public accountant licensed in the State of Illinois.
