January 28, 2025
Julie Kozminski

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) hosted its fourth meeting of the term Jan. 23 – 24, where commissioners met to hear public presentations and lead public discussion about key Medicaid issues, including:

  • Access, payment policy, and section 1915 authority for home and community-based services (HCBS)
  • Utilization of opioid use disorder medications
  • External quality reviews in managed care oversight
  • Policy for transitions to adult care for children and youth with special health care needs

Commissioners also voted on recommendations for the March report to Congress, including three recommendations on external quality reviews in managed care oversight.

The agency also recommends extending the renewal period for HCBS programs operating under a section 1915(c) waiver from five to 10 years.
