The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) on Aug. 10 announced new investments to support increased demand in the nursing workforce.
The awards, totaling $100 million, will be distributed among health systems and universities to expand the nursing pathway:
- $8.7 million for the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention-Pathway to Registered Nurse Program to help licensed practical nurses become registered nurses.
- $34.8 million for the Advanced Nursing Education Workforce Program and $30 million to the Advanced Nursing Education-Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Program to train nurses who will deliver primary care, mental health care, and obstetric care.
- $26.5 million for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program to mitigate bottlenecks in nurse training by supporting more nurse faculty.
The investment is part of the Health and Human Services Health Workforce Initiative to support, strengthen, and grow the health workforce, which includes a $2.7 billion workforce investment proposed in the Biden administration’s fiscal year 2024 budget.
