On March 25, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sent a letter to health care providers in response to the cyberattack on Change Healthcare and shared a toolkit to help providers navigate the impact of the attack.
The letter outlines the Biden-Harris administration’s response to the cyberattack, including providing flexibility for state Medicaid programs and approving advance and accelerated payments to Medicare providers. The agency also encouraged providers to review and put into practice HHS’ voluntary Healthcare and Public Health Cybersecurity Performance Goals.
Furthermore, HHS compiled information and resources to help providers connect with health plans and payers regarding the effects of the cyberattack. The toolkit includes guides to connect with alternate data clearinghouse services, information on advance payments, and regional contact information.
