The Department of Health and Human Services awarded $103 million to improve the retention of health care workers by addressing staff burnout and promoting mental health and wellness. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act, awards will fund evidence-informed programs, practices, and training, with a focus on providers in underserved and rural communities.
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded 45 grants in three categories:
- promoting resilience and mental health among health professional workforce;
- health and public safety workforce resiliency training program; and
- health and public safety workforce resiliency technical assistance center.
Several essential hospitals were among the awardees, including the University of New Mexico, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Utah.
