The Department of Health and Human Services has announced a Postpartum Maternal Health Collaborative to convene local providers, community partners, and other experts in six states to explore challenges facing postpartum populations and solutions to improve postpartum mortality.

Six states will participate in the collaborative, including Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Mexico.

Also, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released highlights from its Improving Postpartum Care Affinity Group, which convened from April 2021 to April 2023. Nine states worked with CMS to use a data-driven approach to identify, test, implement, and evaluate a quality improvement project to improve the quality of and access to postpartum care and to address disparities. The participating states were Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, South Carolina, and Wyoming.
