ABOUT THE INTEREST GROUP
Network with peers and exchange strategies and practices for improving the health of patients and communities that essential hospitals serve.
In 2019, Essential Hospitals Institute released Outside the Hospital Walls: An Update on Essential Hospitals’ Efforts to Improve the Health of Their Communities, a resource designed to define and describe the notion of community-integrated health care (CIHC).
America’s Essential Hospitals defines CIHC as “a strategy by which health care providers work with other sectors (e.g., government, private entities*, social service, community development) in both complementary and collaborative ways to improve health. We envision successful community-integrated health care yields a connected system that meets the physical, mental, and social needs of individuals and improves the structures and conditions that influence those needs.”
*2025 addition to 2019 definition
Join the discussion and discover innovations—both in and beyond essential hospitals—to establish the structures and conditions that support CIHC.
