In a letter to state Medicaid directors, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a Medicaid Transportation Coverage Guide. The guide reviews federal requirements and state flexible policies; addresses statutory requirements outlined in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021; and incorporates nonemergency medical transportation recommendations from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
The guide also provides information on considerations for special populations, transportation under specific circumstances, provider and vehicle requirements, and payment.
