An Oct. 9 report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) details how states are using funds issued from the Rural Health Transformation Program.
CMS oversees the $50 billion fund, which is administered by individual states. The report lists each state’s initiatives; sub-initiatives; and sums awarded for these programs between Dec. 29, 2025, and July 31, 2026.
The Oct. 9 report does not describe CMS’ ongoing evaluation of programming success. CMS will evaluate success at the initiative level, based on completion of checkpoints described in the state’s submitted Rural Health Transformation Plan. States that fail to meet their described checkpoints may see future funds reduced, or, in extreme cases, rescinded.
CMS anticipates announcing award amounts for states, based on compliance with their Transformation Plan, on Oct. 31.
