The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a request for information (RFI) on existing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that support health care outcomes and service delivery relevant to agency programs and operations.

CMS is particularly interested in how health care companies, providers, and payers; start-ups; and other developers are leveraging:

  • Generative AI
  • Diagnostics and imaging analysis
  • Clinical documentation and summarization
  • Alert/risk assessment and predictive analytics
  • Clinical decision support systems
  • Business administration automation and efficiencies
  • Staffing and workforce enablement
  • Billing, benefits, and utilization management
  • Direct-to-patient communication
  • AI direct care, such as robotic-assisted health care delivery
  • Fraud detection

Each quarter, a technical panel of CMS employees will select organizations to demonstrate their AI products and services to the agency during a series of “CMS AI Demo Days” to help the agency understand AI uses in the health sector. Responses will be used solely for information and planning purposes and may be made available publicly, CMS says.

RFI responses are due Oct. 7 via email to Digital Service at CMS at cmsdemodays@cms.hhs.gov.
