The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) observed Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 12–18, 2023, to raise awareness about protecting patients and providers from infectious disease threats, such as antimicrobial resistance (AR). CDC also publicly supported the Partnership to Fight Infectious Disease’s campaign, on March 16, 2023.
Recent CDC patient safety resources include:
- A new health advisory with reporting guidelines and education recommendations for patients with extensively drug-resistant Shigella infections.
- A blog series on safety tips for patients and families on infection prevention and control, antibiotic and antifungal use, and AR.
Upcoming CDC events and activities focused on patient safety include:
- , April 9–15. During this time, CDC will focus on raising awareness on sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and improving sexual health.
- AMR Exchange, CDC’s collaborative webinar series on multidisciplinary AR issues. The next installment, in late April, will highlight the programs and activities of CDC’s Global Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory and Response Network.
