In an April 8 letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), America’s Essential Hospitals commented on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; Marketplace Integrity and Affordability proposed rule, which changes several enrollment and eligibility policies for the health insurance marketplace.
America’s Essential Hospitals calls on CMS to reduce red tape for eligible beneficiaries, ensuring they can maintain health coverage while reducing churn. Current marketplace eligibility rules allow individuals more time to enroll in coverage and adapt to changes in circumstances. CMS should keep these flexibilities, especially the extended open enrollment period.
The association also urged CMS to maintain the current definition of “lawfully present” so that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients can continue to obtain marketplace health coverage.
