America’s Essential Hospitals is closely monitoring the executive orders signed by President Trump since he took office on Jan. 20, and will provide members with regular updates on the status of these orders as they are reviewed by federal courts.
Since the association’s last update on July 8, the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has taken numerous actions intended to respond to President Trump’s executive orders. First, HHS finalized a portion of its layoffs after the Supreme Court lifted a lower court’s preliminary injunction. Second, HHS limited the ability of immigrants without legal status to access grant-funded benefits by expanding the department’s interpretation of the term “federal public benefit” as it applies to the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996. Third, HHS will provide priority review for new drug applications to drug companies that equalize the cost of their drugs between the United States and other countries.
The association’s latest review of the Trump administration’s executive actions and their potential effects on essential hospitals is available for members.
