The Trump administration on March 20 released a legislative framework for artificial intelligence (AI) governance with potential implications for health care providers, including essential hospitals. The administration calls on Congress to:
- Implement protections for children online, including stronger parental oversight tools, privacy-protective age assurance requirements, and safeguards on AI platforms
- Provide federal resources to support AI adoption, particularly for small businesses across industries
- Support sector-specific AI development and use, leveraging existing regulatory agencies with subject matter expertise and industry-led standards
- Strengthen the workforce by incorporating AI training into education and workforce programs and expanding federal research on AI-driven workforce changes
The administration stated that it is pursuing a national AI legislative framework to align state policies while promoting U.S. innovation and competitiveness.
