America’s Essential Hospitals proudly announces a new two-day training workshop: Essential Skills for Population Health Leaders.

This training opportunity is designed for hospital population health leaders working to influence social determinants of health through partnerships inside and outside the hospital walls.

The workshop, Oct. 3-4, at RWJBarnabas Health, in Jersey City, N.J., expands on our Toolkit For Hiring and Evaluating Population Health Executives (right) and targets two of five core skills for population health leaders identified in that research. The curriculum is tailored to hospitals that serve a safety-net role and will help population health leaders effectively communicate about and manage social determinant improvement efforts.

This interactive workshop will feature collaboration with like-minded professionals, action planning to clearly identify next steps, tools, and reference resources, and practical experience. Prework will prepare participants so they can focus at the workshop on how to apply what they learn, and follow-up assignments and a webinar will keep the discussion going after the workshop ends.

As part of the workshop, participants will learn and practice:

  • communicating effectively to diverse internal and external audiences;
  • conveying the value and importance of population health to executive leaders and;
  • integrating improvement projects into hospital workflow;
  • coordinating with multidisciplinary staff for population health work; and
  • adapting to opportunities in a changing health care and health policy environment.
