Working Toward Zero Suicide in an Essential Hospital

Date: Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Time: 2:00 PM ET

National figures estimate that more than 70 percent of people who died by suicide saw their primary care provider at least once in the year before their death.

Association member University Health System, in San Antonio, transformed its approach by adopting the Zero Suicide model. The purpose of the program is to raise awareness, establish referral processes, and improve care and outcomes for patients at risk for suicide.

Participants  reviewed organizational assessments to measure staff competencies, along with evidence-based trainings related to suicide prevention and care. They learned how essential hospitals can reduce inpatient hospital admissions and suicide risk for those hospitalized.
