Transforming Group Treatment in Acute Psychiatry

Date: Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Time: 2:00 PM ET

Kings County Hospital Center, part of NYC Health + Hospitals, has adopted a patient-centered and recovery-oriented approach to the treatment of those who suffer from severe mental illness. Since 2009, the hospital has been transforming their culture toward a recovery-oriented model. This involves incorporating group prescription into the general treatment plan of patients.

During this webinar, attendees heard how this approach has increased Kings County Hospital Center’s patient engagement and their ability to measure group efficacy.

During this webinar, the speaker covered the following objectives:

  • review how adopting a patient-centered care approach assists with improved outcomes in an inpatient setting;
  • discuss the development of patient-centered group treatment as a methodology to improve patient engagement and outcomes; and
  • learn how to measure a skill building approach to determine the efficacy of group treatment.

Ms. Barbara Bornmann, MA, RDT/BCT, LCAT
Associate Director of Behavioral Health
Kings County Hospital Center
