Sustaining patient and family partnerships goes beyond simple engagement. To establish a true partnership, patients and families must help develop patient engagement programs, in addition to being active advocates and participants This relationship allows a program to continually improve to meet the community’s needs, as well as advance toward the ultimate goal of shared decision making.

During this final distance learning installment within this 11-part series, participants heard from an expert in the field on the importance of sustainable patient/family relationships from an organizational perspective. Additionally, a patient and his family discussed ways to improve relationships and shared stories of outstanding patient-provider interactions.
