Strategies for Reducing Transportation Barriers to Health

Transportation barriers disproportionately affect low-income, vulnerable communities and contribute to health disparities. Participants  heard how a new association brief can help essential hospitals influence this social determinant of health.

Essential Hospitals and States: Confronting Transportation Barriers to Improve Health highlights member strategies to reduce transportation barriers, as well as state policy levers to improve transportation access for eligible patients.

Rani Morrison, senior director of care continuum at the University of Illinois Health & Hospital System, in Chicago, highlighted the system’s PRONTO program, which provides Lyft rides for patients transitioning out of hospital care.
