Public Charge Proposal: What Essential Hospitals Need to Know

A new Department of Homeland Security proposed rule expands the types of public benefits immigration officials consider when determining whether an individual is likely to become a “public charge.” Overhauling the definition of public charge to include health and nutritional benefits would directly affect health care at essential hospitals for noncitizens and citizens alike.
