To continue the conversation on Medicaid managed care directed payments, participants joined us for a deep dive into California’s experience with this funding stream.
Medicaid managed care regulations in 2016 allowed states to make directed payments to hospitals through managed care plans, and recent proposed changes give states more flexibility in structuring these arrangements. Participants heard firsthand from the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems about how the state’s directed payments work, the approval process, and challenges and successes with implementation. Association member Kern Medical Center shared its experience with directed payments and their impact on the hospital.
