Learning New Ways of Communicating

A successful patient- and family- centered care initiative is the product of leadership vision and staff partnership. During the third webinar from the Better Together: Partnership with Families Program, participants explored staff concerns and identified potential barriers to the initiative’s success.



  • identify and discuss staff practices and strategies that encourage the presence and participation of families
  • explore strategies for involving staff from all disciplines and departments to work with patients and families in new and more welcoming ways
  • discuss staff concerns and fears about developing welcoming family policies and practices
  • discuss how patient and family advisors can participate in this change process

Homework and prework were assigned to maximize program participation, enhance results, and encourage enthusiasm for this work.
