The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected underrepresented populations across the United States and shed light on the health inequities and barriers that make the Hispanic community especially vulnerable to COVID-19.
At association member RWJBarnabas Health, in Jersey City, N.J., two teams — Diversity and Inclusion and Social Impact and Community Investment — work to address social determinants of health and decrease health inequities in diverse populations. Participants heard how staff at RWJ University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset went beyond hospital walls to mitigate COVID-19 disparities among Hispanic residents of Somerset County, N.J., through grassroots outreach, education, and resource sharing.
