Graduate Medical Education During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Date: Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Time: 2:00 PM ET

The COVID-19 pandemic challenges hospitals to balance patient care needs with the educational needs of medical students and residents, and essential hospitals have risen to that challenge.

Participants learned about the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)’s new framework for graduate medical education (GME) activities during the pandemic, effective July 1. ACGME’s Paul Johnson, MFA, presented the new binary approach to COVID-19 emergency categorization for operations at GME sponsoring institutions. Also, participants explored how a fellow member hospital involved and supported residents within the hospital and across the region during different stages of the pandemic.
