Assessing Your Organization’s Readiness

This webinar was the first of four installments within the Better Together: Partnership with Families Program. During this hour-long distance learning opportunity, members of America’s Essential Hospitals explored the definition and core concepts of patient- and family-centered care. Participants also learned how to identify their organization’s readiness, key actions they can take to prepare for this cultural transition, and the reasons to make the change.

Objectives

  • describe the core concepts of patient- and family-centered care as foundational to an organizational culture that supports the delivery of high quality, safe, and efficient care

  • explore the power of stories in changing policies and practices

  • discuss initial strategies for changing the concept of families as visitors

  • discuss processes for identifying a hospital’s strengths and opportunities for improvement

Homework and prework were assigned to maximize program participation, enhance results, and encourage enthusiasm for this work.
