Break the Chain of Infection, the theme of this year’s International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), occurring globally Oct. 16–22, recognizes the various opportunities that health care professionals and patients have to prevent the spread of infection.
Each year, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC)-sponsored effort highlights the importance of infection prevention in improving patient safety. To help foster an open environment for conversation, APIC created informational materials on best practices for wearing gloves in the health care environment. As part of IIPW, APIC also created an online pledge for patients and families and an online pledge for health care professionals.
