CDC Releases Update on C. Auris Cases

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published updated information on the 77 Candida auris (C. auris) cases reported so far this year in the United States.

The fungus, which spreads in health care settings, often is drug-resistant and can cause serious infections.

CDC is working to assist health departments in the states where C. auris cases have been reported. Through the CDC Antibiotic Resistance (AR) Lab Network, regional labs are testing for new forms of Candida resistance and developing a response. CDC is tracking Candida through the Emergency Infections Program to learn more about C. auris, and the CDC AR Isolate Bank is providing samples to help diagnostic labs standardize their tests for the fungus.

CDC publishes monthly updates on reported cases on its C. auris website. The CDC in February published updated guidance on controlling the fungus.
