Hospitals can now preview their performance on the new Overall Hospital Star Rating system, which will be published to the Hospital Compare website in April.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) included more than 60 measures from the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting and Outpatient Quality Reporting programs in the final star rating system.
CMS consulted with stakeholders through a technical expert panel, patient and advocate working groups, and a dry run with public comment period. America’s Essential Hospitals stressed to CMS through its comments that the Overall Hospital Star Rating system should be meaningful and accurate, avoid confusion among consumers, and account for socioeconomic and demographic factors that complicate care for vulnerable patients.
Hospitals can access a preview report by logging in to the QualityNet Secure Portal. The portal also includes detailed supporting documents about the reporting system.
