New CDC Resources Aim To Help Providers Follow Opioid Prescribing Guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a new suite of resources — including a mobile application, a series of short videos, posters and more — to help providers follow opioid prescribing guidelines issued in March 2016.

The no-cost mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices, and includes:

  • a morphine milligram equivalent calculator;
  • summaries of CDC’s key recommendations related to opioid prescribing, with a link to the full guidelines; and
  • an interactive feature enabling providers to practice effective communication.

The videos educate providers and patients about opioid use and the associated risks, and they can be shared via social media or used in larger presentations and training.
