International Infection Prevention Week Highlights Antibiotic Resistance

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) urges health care professionals to take action to reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance during International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), Oct. 15 to Oct. 21.

APIC released a new infographic for health care professionals to accompany the ABCs of Antibiotics graphic the organization published in 2014. The infographic encourages providers to prescribe antibiotics only when necessary, educate patients about how antibiotics work, and stand up to patients who pressure them to prescribing antibiotics.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will join APIC for a Twitter chat on Oct. 17 at 2 pm ET to discuss antibiotic resistance and preservation using the hashtag #IIPWChat. Other infection prevention resources are available on APIC’s website.
