Be Antibiotics Aware This Week

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria infect at least 2 million people each year, and 23,000 die as a direct result of these infections. From Nov. 13 to 19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) observes U.S. Antibiotics Awareness Week to raise awareness about antibiotic resistance and educate providers about proper antibiotic prescribing.

The CDC will host a Twitter chat Thursday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 3 pm ET using the #AntibioticResistance hashtag. Thursday also is National Rural Health Day, and the CDC will join with the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy to host a 2 pm ET webinar on antibiotic stewardship for critical access hospitals.

Blogs, videos, and additional educational resources about antibiotics are available on the CDC website.

Contact Director of Policy Erin O’Malley at or 202.585.0127 with questions.
