President-Elect Donald Trump has nominated Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) to head the Department of Health and Human Services and Seema Verma, MPH, to be administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Price, an orthopedic surgeon, chairs the House Committee on the Budget and is a member of the House Republican Doctors Caucus, Congressional Health Care Caucus, and Tea Party Caucus. In 2014, America’s Essential Hospitals recognized Price for his work as assistant professor and medical director of the orthopedic clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital, an association member in Atlanta.

Verma, the president and founder of health policy consulting firm SVC Consultants, graduated from the association’s Fellows Program in 2001. She previously served as vice president of planning for the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County, an association member in Indiana, and as a director for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials, in Washington, DC. She also oversaw implementation of a Medicaid expansion waiver in Indiana under Vice President-Elect Mike Pence.

America’s Essential Hospitals released a statement on the nominations.
