States are developing strategies to vaccine people experiencing homelessness, who face transportation barriers, inability to track second doses, limited availability of technology, and lack of an established connection to a health care provider.
More than 30 states have specifically prioritized vaccinations for homeless populations. For example:
- in Connecticut, state and local health departments are coordinating vaccine rollouts with homeless shelters and partnering with nonprofit organizations to administer the doses to people in need; and
- the Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance partnered with the departments of Public Health and the Housing and Community Development to ensure homeless populations and shelter staff received the vaccine.
