States Explore Provider-Based Premium Assistance

Hospitals in Florida, New York, and Wisconsin are exploring options to help individuals afford premiums for insurance purchased through the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplace.

A recent Kaiser Health News article discussed each state’s specific eligibility criteria, which are designed to comply with February guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document.

America’s Essential Hospitals has published a policy brief explaining the importance of provider-sponsored premium assistance. In the brief, the association points out that allowing providers to subsidize insurance premiums would increase opportunities for patients to gain insurance and access to continuous and coordinated care.
