America’s Essential Hospitals and other national hospital associations have released a report on modernizing the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Survey.
The report is based on interviews with hospital patient experience leaders. Among the findings, patient experience leaders:
- called for digitizing and shortening the survey;
- emphasized the importance of using appropriate literacy levels to make sure hospitals ask the right questions to evaluate patient experience; and
- said the survey should account for the impact of social determinants of health on outcomes.
