Star Ratings Preview Report Deadline Approaches

Hospitals have until June 4 to access and download reports on their performance on the new Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings system, which will be published to the Hospital Compare website in July. These reports will not be accessible after June 4.

Previously, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) delayed the release of these star ratings to give hospitals greater opportunity to understand the full impact of the final methodology and engage CMS in discussions to better understand their hospital-specific reports.

America’s Essential Hospitals stressed in previous comments to CMS that the overall star ratings system should be meaningful and accurate, avoid confusion among consumers, and account for socioeconomic and demographic factors that complicate care for vulnerable patients. While CMS promises to do more internal analyses related to areas of concern in the methodology, those analyses will not be completed in time for these preview reports.

Hospitals can access their preview report by signing in to the QualityNet Secure Portal and should save a copy of the report for future reference.
