The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released Hospital Compare preview reports for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Quality Reporting, Outpatient Quality Reporting, Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting and Prospective Payment System–Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting programs.

Hospitals have until Oct. 31 to preview their quality data before it is published on the Hospital Compare website in December. CMS encourages hospitals to download and save a copy of the report from the QualityNet Secure Portal for future reference.

Star Rating Reports Expected in Mid-October

Meanwhile, hospital-specific reports for overall quality star ratings will be provided to hospitals in mid-October before they are published publicly in December. These reports will incorporate several updates to the star rating methodology based on stakeholder feedback,

CMS decided not to update overall star ratings data in October, citing public feedback on methodology. Star ratings released in December 2016 will remain on Hospital Compare until the December 2017 update.

Hospitals should send questions regarding the overall star rating to the Hospital Compare Overall Rating Team at cmsstarratings@lantanagroup.com.
